BBE
BBE 427 Distortion
By looking at the schematic it appears that this one is a mix of a couple classic distortion circuits….the core is a Marshall Guvnor with LED clipping with a tonestack lifted from Boss DS1. 2,15k reistor can be subbed for 2,2k and that huge 1000uf power filter cap could be subbed for 100uF.
BBE Boosta Grande
The Boosta Grande is a simple opamp-based boost that’s pretty similar to the MXR Micro Amp. Only differences being where the pot is in the circuit and component value changes. Offers up to +20dB of boost. Should fit in a 1590A if you don’t board mount the pot.
BBE AM64 American Metal
Here’s the BBE AM64. While “Metal” is in its name, it seems more suited for heavier rock sounds. 70s metal at best. Nonetheless, it’s a very good sounding distortion box. The circuit is essentially a Guv’nor with soft clipping instead of hard, along with a DS-1 tone stack.
Vertex Axis Wah / BBE Ben Wah
I put this on hold because the inductor used has a number of connections and although only 2 of them are being used it may make it difficult to mount on vero. So I will put it on hold and maybe look at doing a daughterboard for the inductor, or maybe even using a different … Read more
BBE Crusher
BBE’s take on one of the classics. Once again, the power supply filter cap is probably an overkill, so use 47µ, 100µ or 220µ instead of the 1000µ.
BBE AM64 American Metal
I wasn’t aware that BBE would release nice, simple designs with all through-hole components for good bargain prices. Funny how all the units on eBay are priced about a double of the original unit as a new… The input cap (4n7) could be upped to at least 22n and there are other things one could … Read more
BBE Boosta Grande
I got an original unit some time ago and it is fairly nice clean booster. Apparently the new version is built in a smaller box, while the circuit remains the same. Info from the manufacturer: The Boosta Grande, a Guitar Player Editor’s Pick, is back in a new compact chassis to conserve space on your … Read more
BBE Free Fuzz
Modern adaptation of the classic Fuzz Face. Nothing too special about the circuit, except for the fact that it uses biasing methods side by side with the fuzz pot. Original units have two resistors in parallel from Q2 emitter to ground, but i’ve replaced those with a 22K trimmer for this layout. There’s a lot … Read more
