Here’s a cool original design by DeadAstronaut. It’s a cascaded JFET/mu-amp based high gain distortion with a 3-band EQ. Original build doc with schematic found here. Laid out for a 125B enclosure with top mounted jacks.

Got another take on the bufferless Tube Screamer. DeadAstronaut has added some extra tone shaping options for tone, gain, and clipping. Pretty versatile tones on tap from light drive into heavier territory. He’s also got a PCB with board mounted pots and switches for sale on his site here if you don’t feel like wiring … Read more
Been a while since I did a reverb layout and this DeadAstronaut design does not disappoint. It’s not a true-bypass effect, but uses some JFET switching so that tails are present when you turn the effect off. Coda Effects actually has a really good write up on the design. For Fuzz Friday here’s DeadAstronaut’s take on the good ol’ Big Muff. It features a toggle switch (Fat/Thin) that changes the output capacitor from the first stage, and a rotary switch (mode) that changes the sound type. In the designer’s own words: It’s basically a classic big muff with fat/thin switching, plus 3 other modes … Read more
Deadastronaut’s version of the Big Muff. Original DIY thread and schematic are available here. There’s also another great layout by Mug in the Forum section.
Here’s one for my fellow bassists out there. It’s a transistor-ized version of the Fender Bassman preamp as modified by DeadAstronaut over on DIYSB. It’s laid out for board mounted pots and switch and will fit nicely in a 1590B.
It’s Fuzz Friday! Here’s a cool doom-style fuzz from DeadAstronaut over on the DIYSB forum. Pretty simple and should fit in a 1590a. Schematic and a ton of discussion can be found here.
Merry Christmas Eve-Eve, everybody! Hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday. Here’s an awesome tremolo circuit designed by DIYSB member DeadAstronaut. Cody asked me if I could do an etch-able layout since DeadAstronaut has sold out of PCBs for the effect. Check out the original thread on DIYSB for the schematic and more info. … Read more
