Happy Fuzz Friday, everyone! Here’s a cool take on the IC Big Muff by JuanSolo and Grind Customs. It’s essentially the ’78 IC Big Muff with the tone bypass switch with the tone stack from the Ultrastoner. Should be able to squeeze it into a 1590B.
This one was quite tricky to trace. Got the topology figured out quite quickly but but identifying some of the capacitor values was quite difficult with these Greenies with faded markings. After having played around with some random mic preamps on the breadboard and in LTspice lately, I thought I might go back to basics with a fuzz face derivative – the Zvex Woolly Mammoth. Brother to the Fuzzolo and Mastoron (they all share the same bones). ZVEX WOOLLY MAMMOTH – VERO LAYOUT
Layout is based on schematic from PedalPCB. This is a stripped down version of the original pedal to make it fit into a small enclosure. For those who wants to build the complete circuit, Deadend Fx has PCB on their site called Diddy.
The layout above is still unverified but I did a smaller simplified version a while ago. The fuzz section has been removed since didn’t care for it. Less offboard wiring and and a smaller enclosure…and you can put your favorite fuzz after it.
A portion of this is based on the limiter circuit in some of the Thomas Organ Vox Beatle amps, which were solid-state amplifiers.
